What is Pink Shirt Day?
In 2007, two high school students from the small community of Cambridge in Nova Scotia witnessed a Grade 9 boy being bullied for wearing a pink polo shirt. Bullies harassed the boy, for wearing pink and threatened to beat him up. The next day hundreds of students showed up wearing pink clothes to take a stand against the bullies. It was this story that inspired the movement Pink Shirt Day.
Bullying continues to be an issue at local schools, workplaces, homes, and over the Internet. Pink Day is an opportunity for staff, students and community members that we take a stand against bullying.
Wear PINK on Wed., Feb. 22nd to #standup to bullies.
